PAINTED WIVES

A dynamic progressive doom metal outfit from Southern California that draws from a wide array of influences, Painted Wives emerged in the early 2010s from the ashes of lauded Orange County metallers Railroad to Alaska. The band issued their Century Media debut, Obsessed with the End, in 2016, followed by the crushing New Medusa in 2021.

The group is based out of Huntington Beach and comprised of guitarist Justin Suitor, drummer Derek Eglit, bassist Justin Morales, guitarist Jeff Lyman, and collaborator, conspirator, and outside lyricist Ryan Williams. Evoking the craftiness and sonic might of Mastodon and Cave In and the brooding darkness of Alice in Chains, the band self-financed their debut album, Obsessed with the End, in 2014. The LP caught the attention of Century Media, which had the record remixed and remastered by Clutch and Lamb of God producer Machine. This new version was released in 2016. Working again with Machine, Painted Wives issued a handful of singles in 2020, including the searing "Truth & Consequences," ahead of the arrival of their sophomore long-player, New Medusa, which appeared the following year.
